Can I Stay Anonumous
Aug 15, 2017
Very light-weight with a durable cover. The sling stays with you. Great for transfers and sitting in nonconventional areas.
Advantages: I love the Jay protector. Waterproof, easy to clean, acts like a strap-on prosthetic derriere. I can sit on exercise machines, kayak, go up stairs on my bum. Take the cover off and use it in the shower. It is slightly buoyant so a paraplegic can perhaps stay more easily afloat. Swimming underwater is a bit impeded by the buoyancy, but manageable.
Disadvantages: Do not leave in a hot car. Heat appears to affect the gel. Below 40 degrees F, allow the cushion to warm inside your coat or leave indoors for a while. The gel becomes firm, like butter would in a refrigerator, and while your buttocks warms the gel it seems to promote enough pressure to leak some gel. I have ruined a few cushions. Just remember this is an alternative and not as large or as pressure-relieving as, say, a Roho. Trial one and check your behind to feel confident it works for you. I have a scrawny behind myself. Multiple-hour forays in a kayak can cause forward sliding so look out for pressure from the straps. I offload the pressure areas myself with some little gel pads I have. Experiment and see what works.
